Radio Relay Site visit.
I had the chance to make a trip to one of the Radio Relay Sites on top of the Atlas Mountains. Its purpose was to take supplies to them. If memory serves me correctly, there were only three people that staffed this site. This was a 2 day trip. One day to get there, overnight stay, then return to Site # 5 on the second day. There were 4 of us on the trip. Two of them were normal supply run people and the other 2 were along just for the ride. It was quite an experence for me.

Antenna at Sunrise.
The view was awsome! Not the every day view. It was beautiful ! |
Almost the same view.
The camera just couldn't capture all the beauty... |

First picture on the roll !
Trying to strech the roll of film as much as possible. Early the next morning sunrise. |
More of the Antennas.
The reason for the sites existance was to relay communications from the Radar Sites to the East of the Atlas Mtns. back to the Sites along the Western side where the Headquarters and Air Bases were.

View from the top.
The top of this mountain that you could stand on was very small. I doubt that it would cover a full acre. Just the living quarters, which included the radio relay equipment, generators for power, antenna and very little else. |
More from the top.
I could hardly believe the beauty of the sunrise from the top.

Standing on the edge.
A few more steps and you would be a quarter of a mile or more straight down. You could see for miles and miles. |
